Product introduction

Cefolac DT-100 Tablet should be given under the supervision of a doctor or health professional. Use it regularly at evenly spaced intervals as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Using it at the same time every day will help you remember to take it. The dose will depend on what you are being treated for, but you should always complete the full course of this antibiotic as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking it until you have finished, even when you feel better. If you stop taking it early, some bacteria may survive and the infection may come back or worsen. It will not work for viral infections such as flu or common cold. Using any antibiotic when you do not need it can make it less effective for future infections.

The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, stomach pain, indigestion, and diarrhea. These are usually mild but let your doctor know if they bother you or do not go away.

Before taking it, you should let your doctor know if you are allergic to any antibiotics or have any kidney or liver problems. You should also let your healthcare team know all other medicines you are taking as they may affect, or be affected by this medicine. This medicine is generally regarded as safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding if prescribed by a doctor.

How Cefolac Tablet DT works

Cefolac DT-100 Tablet is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.
Cefolac 100 DT Tablet is a dispersible formulation of Cefixime, a third‑generation cephalosporin antibiotic widely used to treat various bacterial infections. The “DT” indicates it is a dispersible tablet—meaning it dissolves in water before administration, making it easy to take, especially for children and those who have difficulty swallowing.

 Composition & Mechanism of Action
Active Ingredient: Cefixime 100 mg
Class: Third‑generation cephalosporin antibiotic
Mechanism: It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin‑binding proteins, disrupting peptidoglycan cross-linking. This weakens and ultimately destroys susceptible bacteria .

Cefixime exhibits bactericidal activity against many Gram‑positive and Gram‑negative pathogens.

Indications & Therapeutic Uses

Cefolac 100 DT is commonly prescribed for:
Upper & lower respiratory tract infections (e.g. tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia)
Urinary tract infections (cystitis, mild kidney infections)
Otitis media (middle‑ear infection)
Sinusitis
Gonococcal infections (uncomplicated gonorrhoea)
Skin and soft tissue infections and dental infections
Occasionally used for typhoid fever management .

Dosage & Administration
Form: Dispersible tablet (DT).
Adults & children over 12 or ≥50 kg: Typically 100 mg once a day or divided into two doses as per physician’s instruction.

Duration: Standard course is 7–14 days depending on the infection’s severity.

Administration Notes:
Disperse each tablet in a small glass of water and consume immediately.
Swallow with water—do not chew or crush .
May be taken with or without food, though absorption might be modestly altered

Pharmacokinetics
Absorption: Oral bioavailability ~40–50%. Food may delay T_max by ~0.8 hours but does not significantly reduce absorption
Peak serum levels: Within ~2–3 hours (onset)
Half-life: ~3–4 hours in normal renal function; prolonged up to ~9–11.5 hours in severe renal impairment (CrCl <20 mL/min)
Elimination: Primarily renal, unchanged in urine (~40–50% excreted). Faecal excretion accounts for remainder

 Side Effects

Common (generally mild and self‑limiting):
Gastrointestinal: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, flatulence
CNS: headache, dizziness

Less common or rare but serious:
Skin rash, pruritus, urticaria, swelling (face/lips/tongue), possible anaphylaxis
Altered taste, fungal infections (oral or vaginal), agitation, insomnia, confusion, nightmares, hallucinations, depression, anxiety
Severe: tendon inflammation or rupture, hemolytic anemia, renal or liver dysfunction, Stevens‑Johnson syndrome, DRESS
Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea: severe, persistent diarrhea with blood, fever, cramps—potentially serious; discontinue and consult a doctor

Avoid alcohol or heavy machinery if dizziness or CNS effects occur.

Use in Special Populations
